Happy One Month Anniversary!!!

I have been in Indonesia for one month and one day! Happy Anniversary to me! I am learning to adjust and adapt to the culture and all of the “special” things that happen only in Indonesia. I am learning to be easy going and not get too uptight when things don’t go the way I had originally planned. Take every hour as it comes…
“Indo moments” are what expats refer to as things that happen only in Indonesia, when something goes terribly wrong or what seemed to be a simple task only becomes more complicated. I experienced three of these “indo moments” in my first fifteen minutes in my new place.
1) Locked myself out of my outdoor bathroom
2) Saw and killed my first cockroach
3) Met my first gecko and tried not to cry when I realized that my living conditions were different than I had pictured in my head!
However, it is important to laugh about such moments. Almost everyone keeps a journal and its filled with all the ups and downs, highs and lows about Indonesian life.
While there are indo moments galore, there are also lots of benefits to living here! I have a fantastic maid who keeps my place sparkling clean! I can eat at a nice place for next to nothing! I can go to the spa every weekend to get pampered; manicures, pedicures, cream baths, massages… all for a very low price! As well its always nice and warm and there are great pools at my school! So with all the trouble and annoyances, there are many more benefits to living here!
